This is too cool just for FB. I just took a walk down into the gorge–with all three pets. A couple of inches of rain are expected in the next couple of days, so I figured this would be my last good opportunity until next summer. Had to hack my way through some blackberry brambles to get down there, but it was worth it.
I wasn’t sure how it would go between CJ and the cats; her dearest ambition in life is to be allowed to chase some cats. She’s good with them in the house and yard, but out in the open, when one of them dashes past? I just wasn’t sure. But all went well:
That was the best shot I managed to get with both dog and cat(s) in frame. Later I got this
but Shadow had dashed on ahead. And this was even less successful:
Here are some shots with just cats in them. This one I think has only one cat,
but this one has two. Though one is very well hidden.
Here’s the guy who was hiding. Back in the shadows, in the middle. Very appropriate, since it’s Shadow.
Here are a couple of the two together:
Phantom seemed to get more worn out than Shadow (that’s him panting above.) Or maybe just more stressed, I’m not sure which. At one point I think he lost track of all of us–he let out with a very distressed-sounding cry that was very different from anything I’ve heard from a cat before. I called back to him, and he trotted up to us (or bounded–the grass was pretty high for the cats) and he seemed just fine after that.
Just for variety, here’s CJ looking pretty.
And here are a couple of the view at the bottom of the gorge. Who knows when I’ll get down there again? The first one has a glimpse of my house in it, but you can’t see it–it’s the same color as the sky, and it’s just a bit between the trees.
Heading home:
Anyway, I am thrilled that the cats will walk with me and CJ. I need to get out to the woods somewhere where we can take a proper walk.
No leashes for kitties, eh? That’s pretty impressive– the notion that cats would walk more or less where you were walking.
Looks as though a good time was had by all the species, even though only two species were visible.

I’ve been hoping for that. Will still use leashes when out of my neighborhood, though. Unless we’re in a nice, deserted camp in the woods–then I hope for a good long amble as a group.
