See this empty space?
That represents real progress–stuff was there that hadn’t been touched in 15 years. Now sorted and properly disposed of.
Following picture shows the mess left to be dealt with.
And even though the next picture only shows boxes that have been shifted to fill the empty space in the first pic, creating a new empty space, that also represents real progress. Yes it does.
There are three or four boxes in that pile I really should get rid of–it’s all stuff from my dissertation. I may be able to toss it in a few years, but just couldn’t quite make myself do it at this point. Foolish, I know, but it was so damn much work, and I just can’t quite bring myself to wipe it all out yet.
I say this with fear and trembling and crossed fingers, but I think I may, perhaps, be almost to the point where other people could actually help. So if push comes to shove, I can hire help. Up to this point, there would have been no point because of all the sorting required–there were no big chunks I could point someone at and say “do this”. Nor was I to the point where it would be OK if everything just got packed and taken up. But now I am. Almost. Perhaps. Knock wood.
