Decided to begin loading the van–there’s a lot of work to do, so it makes sense to begin chipping away at it.
The first step was to convert the van from a camper:
into a cargo van by emptying out the back.
I then ruminated a bit about what to take/what to load first/how to make things fit. My goal is to fit this shed
in there in such a way that I can then fill it with stuff and have it be stable. The best way would be to lay it on its back–the problem with that is that it’s too wide, by 4 inches or so, to fit between the wheel wells. It’s also too tall to be upright. for awhile I considered laying it on its side, but there are a number of issues with that. My first thought was to lay down a layer of boxes of books, but that was stymied because I don’t have enough boxes of just the right size.
Eventually I stumbled on what I hope will be the solution. I emptied this bookcase
and laid down it’s shelves on the floor of the van (you can see a couple peeping out from under the blanket):
so that the bookcase on top of the shelves matches (well enough) the height of the book boxes, making a layer that the shed can now be laid on top of:
My goal was to get the shed into the van this weekend (in fact, I had hoped to get it done Friday), but now that will have to wait until next weekend. There’s a lot of empty space under that bookcase that needs to be filled up first. As I said–baby steps. But at least it’s a start.
Looks like good thinking and good work going into this.

Looks like you will make it. One step at a time eventually covers the longest journey.
