I may never get to do any real blogging on this trip.
Anyway, I am now just outside Williamsburg, VA. Iris and I spent the day at Jamestown yesterday, both the new recreation and the actual site (both are excellent and have more info than I could absorb even if we had time to go through it all). We wandered through Williamsburg the day before, in the rain. Before that, we toured Monticello and Montpelier. All very interesting, and I’d say more, but I have to go shower and we need to pack, load, and get on to the DC area, where we’ll spend the next few days. I’ll try to post from there–but I have to say, given the choice of spending the day processing photos and writing vs spending the day sightseeing–sightseeing pretty much wins. The only reason I’m writing this is I had to do bills, so I’m set up on the computer already, and I’m keeping it short.
I had some kind of intestinal bug when I left Rough Rock (which is why I didn’t post anything then), and spent 3 days in a very nice campground just north of Durango. Saw just enough of CO to want to go back soon. Drove to Kansas, mostly through the rain, and visited an old boyfriend (Franklin, for those who know him), then made my way down to Nashville (through the rain) to meet Iris. We had rain-free time in the Smokies and Asheville, but up until yesterday, VA has all been rain–much of it very heavy downpours. We even resorted to a motel in Richmond because of the rain. (I figure all the rain I’ve been running into is becasue I forgot the nice new rain jacket I bought for the trip.) The good news is today it’s clear–though that probably means it will get hot. But so far, it’s pretty pleasant.
The dogs are being really good, even with all the time in the car. CJ needs more running time than she’s getting, but is coping really well in spite of that. My Shiba girl has a hurt toe that’s keeing her on 3 legs–I took her to a vet and have pain med and antibiotics for her, and am hoping that will take care of whatever it is. I think I’m seeing signs of improvement–I hope.
OK, on to DC.
So glad you wrote. Can wait for full stories / extended blogs till later. I’ve been checking here for news at least once a day after a week or so went by.
I’m sure you will have some really fine pictures and stories when you get back. No time to share them perhaps, but that’s ok too.
Hope the dog’s foot heals quickly.
Take care Jean and enjoy it all. Hi to Iris if she’s still with you when you read this.

Iris went back yesterday. We had a good time, but lots of rain. Or heat. Hard to say which was harder to deal with.
Am in CN now with kids. Grandniece/nephew are very cute, and just got some video so I can back up the cliam later. Am plotting my way home now–tentatively leaving here Wednesday heading for my roommate from Peace Corps days in Ontario. I may get time for a more extended entry tomorrow.

I hope it was rain or heat, not rain and heat. Hard to breathe in steam. Sounds like the trip is proceeding decently. So glad. And thanks again for checking in. Enjoy the trip west.

Hi Jean,
Well, I’m finally looking again at your blog. The last few weeks have been the usual crazy. Beginning next week we will be getting ready to go to Michigan — probably just about the time that you might be returning home.
Glad to hear you have been doing so much sight seeing and visiting — just what you had hoped to do. Glad too that the stomach bug has left.
Not much news here but work, work, work — trying to mop up from last semester and do admissions (drop dead deadline from Admissions in Building 47 is June 30 because of the state budget). Still a heap to do around here, including a heap of papers and files to sort. Ugh.
Anyway, enjoy your trip. Mike, Mother, and I are looking forward to being regaled with pictures and stories once we get back from Michigan in August.
Cheers!
Beverly
