I decided to give up on catching a good shot of CJ next to one of the other dogs out on a walk to show how much she’s grown. Instead, I’m going to return to a previous picture of her I posted less than a week after I picked her up, lying on one of the dog beds I took along.
For contrast, here she is a few days ago. The same dog bed is underneath the one she’s lying on.
Now, you probably think “So what? Puppies grow up and get bigger–what’s so amazing about that?” What has me so boggled is that when I picked her up, I expected her to be my smallest dog. I thought she was about 3 months old, and she weighed only four and a half pounds. Her paws were small. She was very well coordinated–way more coordinated than a typical 6-week old puppy. Her ears were completely upright (and very large), which to me also indicated she wasn’t a 6-week-old pup. When I got her home, a month later, she was still quite small–she promptly hopped through one of the doggie windows I have in my fence, which are about 4 inches square. And now she’s gi-normous. Relatively speaking.
But very pretty, don’t you think? Here’s a face shot:
Here’s one I grabbed on a walk–not a great shot but at least she was standing still.
I’d like to catch one more at her level, but I’ve discovered that if I kneel down anywhere near a dog, they just come running up to me and poke their nose in the camera lens.
You probably noticed she’s changed in more than size–her coloring is quite different also. She went through all kinds of changes in coloring. I think she’s finally settled on her adult coloring–but I won’t be sure of it for another six months.
You sure that’s the same dog????
She’s beautiful. But BIG! Is she as much bigger than your other dogs as she appears?

I know. If I hadn’t had her with me the whole time, I’d think someone had pulled a switcheroo on me. The color change in particular is remarkable. After a couple of months, I gave up predicting what she would look like. And what happened to those spots, anyway?
She sure is. Bigger than the others, that is. Around 45 pounds now–in comparison, the Shiba boy is around 25, the Shiba girl around 22, and the poodle around 15. It’s gonna make travelling next summer trickier–I don’t think all five of us will be able to sleep in the car anymore.

I showed these pictures to some people at work, and one of the asked “Are you sure it’s the same dog?” But then they agreed that if you look really closely, you could see some similaritiies 🙂
