I must have thousands of pictures of trees by now, and I’m constantly trying to capture the effects of the light streaming through them. Somehow that always appeals to me more than a well-lit tree with the light coming from behind me. Unfortunately, cameras don’t seem to be able to capture what I see very often–or maybe it’s just me.
But this one comes close. I caught it on the dog walk yesterday morning. I jacked the contrast way up in Photoshop, and that helped some. It’s not quite as luminous as the real thing was, but if you use your imagination you might be able to visualize the scene.
So–why is backlighting so compelling to me? I’m beginning to suspect it says something about me–but I’m not sure I want to know what. 🙂 (I wish emoticons had more subtlety–that should be more of a wry, self-deprecating smile and less of a gleeful grin.)
Very cool photo. Kind of creepy, though, like the hostile Tom Bombadil forest in Lord of the Rings.

I guess it could be kinda creepy. I’m so used to the trees that I didn’t see them that way. Or maybe I was just too focussed on the light in the background.
The forest (if that’s not too hi-falutin’ a word for scrub oak) IS a bit hostile, in a look-don’t-touch way–a lot of that twiggy stuff under the trees is poison oak.
