Sundown around New Year’s day causes the light to stream in at just the right angle to achieve some really spectacular effects in the little wooded area behind my house. I’ve been trying to capture the effects in photos for a couple of years now. I missed the best days–I was busy trying to get all my grading done, and kept my nose to the grindstone rather than going out to take pictures–so this was the best I could do this year (the sun has already moved to the north far enough that the light is no longer coming in at quite the right angle). But someday, I’m going to get a really good one. Next year, maybe. . .
A friend tells me it’s good etiquette to tell people about the camera used to capture photos. My camera is a Panasonic Lumix model DMC-FZ30. It’s a high-end point-and-shoot with 12X zoom. One of the things I like about it is that the lens is entirely enclosed within the camera body, which is good for me because I do most of my photography outside in dusty or sandy conditions.
That’s a seriously cool photo.

Thanks. I’ve found myself fascinated by, not to say obsessed with, backlighting. It’s really hard to capture, but some of my pictures come close.
