3years! Amazing. But you're right.

It has been amazing to me how people keep coming across this post, and responding to it. The comments are to me the most significant thing about it.

Because this one, and a few others, still get some readership, and still seem to mean something to people, I'll leave this blog up even though I've virtually stopped posting since last summer, and only check in every few weeks.

Beautifully said. It is now nearly 3 years after your post, I suppose, but I just came across it.

Thank you for posting this. It is very helpful. And the comments are very insightful and compassionate.

I'm glad to hear you got the clean bill of health! And I'm sure you can trust the results of an angiogram. The view from the inside of the artery isn't going to be skewed by, uh, external factors.

I believe planning for retirement is such a good thing to do. Not just the material planning, but facing the emotional realities of what retirement might mean. And you can't do one without being sort of led through the other, just because you're thinking of retirement as a closer reality instead of a distant wish. Using vacation time to scout for where you might want to live sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Looking forward to having you back home, and maybe coming to visit you before you get too deeply buried in school stuff.

Have a safe rest of the trip.

I'm getting better--I had a couple of successful backing experiences which involved only backing straight. But there is no way I can even imagine backing this trailer if it involves making a turn. It doesn't take much of an angle for it to "kink" so that no matter what you do, it just increases the angle, so you have to be able to go forward at a certain point or you don't go anywhere. For me, it's all about the pull-throughs :-)

Woohoo! Sounds like it's been pretty wonderful so far with the unavoidable humps and bumps now and then. Always good to hear from you, know you're still out there. I think of you every day.

I'm looking forward to how that "nothing better to do than sit at the computer" works out for you. :-)

Enjoy the cool dryer weather, and have a good time.

I'm catching up on my blogreading after a 10-day workshop and end of school year craziness.

My husband taught me a neat trick for backing up a trailer: if you're trying to back straight, and you see the trailer in one of your side mirrors, turn the steering wheel toward the mirror to make the trailer disappear.

The same trick works for turning as you are backing: turn your wheel away from the mirror on the side you want the trailer to turn.

I learned in one session how to control backing up a trailer with this method. We had a tire problem in Palm Desert on that first trip, and my husband told me to just back the trailer up (though there was plenty of room to pull it around). The mechanic said, "Does she know how?" and he assured him I did. And indeed, I did.

Good luck!

Hi Jean,
Well, I'm finally looking again at your blog. The last few weeks have been the usual crazy. Beginning next week we will be getting ready to go to Michigan -- probably just about the time that you might be returning home.
Glad to hear you have been doing so much sight seeing and visiting -- just what you had hoped to do. Glad too that the stomach bug has left.
Not much news here but work, work, work -- trying to mop up from last semester and do admissions (drop dead deadline from Admissions in Building 47 is June 30 because of the state budget). Still a heap to do around here, including a heap of papers and files to sort. Ugh.
Anyway, enjoy your trip. Mike, Mother, and I are looking forward to being regaled with pictures and stories once we get back from Michigan in August.
                        Cheers!
                                Beverly

Iris went back yesterday. We had a good time, but lots of rain. Or heat. Hard to say which was harder to deal with.

Am in CN now with kids. Grandniece/nephew are very cute, and just got some video so I can back up the cliam later. Am plotting my way home now--tentatively leaving here Wednesday heading for my roommate from Peace Corps days in Ontario. I may get time for a more extended entry tomorrow.

So glad you wrote. Can wait for full stories / extended blogs till later. I've been checking here for news at least once a day after a week or so went by.

I'm sure you will have some really fine pictures and stories when you get back. No time to share them perhaps, but that's ok too.

Hope the dog's foot heals quickly.

Take care Jean and enjoy it all. Hi to Iris if she's still with you when you read this.

Hi Jean,
Well, I finally have enough breathing room to look at your blog. It's great! I like the pictures, though video also would be good, but not essential. I'm going to continue to read and hope that your next parts will show your air conditioner working, etc.
We still are arriving at Tanglewood on July 1. So, keep that in mind.
Must go to work on mucking out the remainder of this year's cohort stuff. Lots of details to catch up on. I won't bore you.
                                      Cheers!
